The University of Melbourne has launched a new environmental sustainability plan to outline the university's strategy to address the global climate and sustainability problems. The sustainability plan 2030 of Melbourne University will renew and enhance the strength of the University's commitment to climate leadership and responds to the need over the next ‘critical decade’ for deep cuts in carbon emissions to maintain a safe climate for the planet. This plan of Melbourne University was launched at an event with students, researchers, staff, and members of a big community. Duncan Maskell, vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne, said that “the University had access to a depth and breadth of research, and expertise allowing it to fulfill this leadership role in the fight to make change”.
