The Australian Academy of Science has awarded Associate Professor Chris Greening of Monash University's Biomedicine Discovery Institute the coveted Fenner Medal.
The Fenner Medal, established after the late Professor FJ Fenner in honour of his contributions to science, honours exceptional research in biology within ten years of researchers obtaining their PhD.
Associate Professor Greening expressed his gratitude for the recognition by saying, "To be recognised with the Fenner Medal is an amazing honour, especially given the vast achievements of prior recipients." Without the cooperation of previous and present team members, mentors, and collaborators, as well as important funding from Monash University and the ARC, NHMRC, AAD, and Wellcome Trust, none of this would have been possible.
The award honours Associate Professor Greening's work as the head of the Biomedicine Finding Institute's One Health Microbiology Group, which includes the groundbreaking discovery that bacteria may 'live on air,' redefining what it means to be alive.
